The M-Audio EX66 uses a midwoofer-tweeter-midwoofer (MTM) vertical array configuration to provide optimal imaging. Traditional 2-way speaker designs can cause significant early reflections from consoles, floors, and ceilings, resulting in coloration and smeared details in the audio. In the M-Audio EX66 monitor's MTM design, the interaction of the two large drivers with the tweeter serves to channel the sound into a much narrower vertical pattern, thereby eliminating many of these reflection problems. The design simultaneously provides a large, coherent horizontal radiation pattern, giving you and your colleagues a much wider sweet spot.

The M-Audio EX66 woofers use M-Audio's proprietary linear-piston technology to minimize driver break-up modes and inertial effects. Our drivers have exceptional intrinsic damping characteristics with absolutely no frequency response peaks or resonances in the audible band. They provide truly linear pistonic action over the entire musical spectrum, bringing all portions of each musical transient into correct alignment and revealing more of music's subtle details. The EX66 1” tweeter sounds as smooth as it looks. Titanium is known in the aerospace industry for its high tensile-strength-to-weight ratio and its resistance to corrosion. We craft the M-Audio EX66 tweeters from titanium in order to create a stiff, yet responsive piston that moves natural resonant modes well above the 20kHz audible threshold. This allows the tweeters to reproduce every nuance of musical detail with crisp, transparent accuracy without any high-frequency energy smearing or the harshness sometimes associated with rigid high-frequency drivers. M-Audio Studiophile BX5a Amplified Monitors

The BX5a refines M-Audio's highly acclaimed BX5 near-field reference monitors, renowned for packing a lot of punch for their size. Our new 5” low-frequency driver cones are crafted from Kevlar, an extremely resilient material typically found in much more expensive monitors. Curved cone design coupled with high-temperature voice coils and damped rubber surrounds deliver incredible fidelity and durability. The 1” high-frequency drivers' magnetically shielded natural silk domes produce crisp top end while still being gentle on the ears. Integral cabinet and electronic engineering work together to deliver improved bass response. 70-watt bi-amped power and expertly tuned crossovers round out an incredible sounding pair of reference monitors with a footprint small enough to fit just about anywhere.

M-Audio's new BX5a employs Kevlar for low-frequency driver construction. The same material used in bulletproof vests, Kevlar's high resilience makes it ideal for use in speaker cones—although it is typically reserved for monitors with higher price tags than the BX5a. Needless to say, Kevlar represents a significant improvement over the polypropylene and paper used in most monitors for this price.

Unchecked, the electromagnetic waves emanating from your speakers can wreak havoc with your computer's video monitor or a nearby TV. The BX5a is magnetically shielded so that all of your electronic equipment can coexist on your desktop without interference.

Active monitors have a distinct advantage over unpowered monitors, in that the built-in power amps are designed specifically to work with the drivers and crossovers in a tuned system. M-Audio Studiophile BX8a Amplified Monitors

Over the years, Studiophile reference monitors have earned a great reputation with recording professionals around the world. The BX8a updates M-Audio's critically acclaimed BX8 near-fields. Topping the improvements list are M-Audio's 8” curved Kevlar low-frequency drivers—a technology usually reserved for monitors bearing a higher price tag. Of course, they're coupled with our time-proven high-temperature voice coils and damped rubber surrounds for durability and fidelity. Magnetically shielded 1” natural silk domes give the BX8s a high-end that's both clear and easy on the ears. To insure a lifetime of service, we constructed the BX8a's 8” low-frequency driver from woven Kevlar—the same material bulletproof vests are made from. (Kevlar is typically reserved for more expensive monitors.) Our engineers also created a curved conical design that improves room dispersion. High-damping rubber surrounds insure that the cone reaches exactly its optimal excursion for accurate reproduction. And M-Audio's high-temperature voice coils guarantee that your monitors will deliver full performance no matter how many hours you use them.

Our high-frequency domes are made from natural silk to counter the ringing that is inherent in the stiffer metallic materials common to other monitors. M-Audio's FerroFlow™ technology uses ferrofluid liquid cooling to dissipate heat for maximum efficiency and extended usage.

Active (powered) monitors allow designers to optimize amplification for other components such as speakers and cabinets. And by using two separate power amps and a finely tuned crossover, the BX8a's bi-amped design insures that both the high- and low-frequency drivers are each sent only the frequencies they reproduce most efficiently.

Stereo Auxiliary Input and Headphone Output
For maximum flexibility, we have included a stereo “Aux” input which allows you to plug in a secondary audio source (such as your portable music player) in addition to the main RCA inputs in the back.  The volume control works on both inputs simultaneously.  Additionally, there is a stereo headphone output next to the “Aux” jack that mutes the sound coming out of the speakers and redirects it to your headphones.

Natural Bass
The custom bass reflex port design discharges very low-frequency signals and delivers a smooth, substantial bass response. Need more? The rear-panel Bass Boost control gives you additional low-frequency gain and makes the monitors versatile for different spaces and listening preferences.

Enclosure
The StudioPro 3's enclosure plays an important role. In order to provide more stable performance, we used a special medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and unique interior reinforcement designed to absorb vibration and impact generated under extreme conditions. Additionally, M-Audio's innovative cabinet includes carefully placed acoustic material that makes the StudioPro 3s sound much bigger than they are—resulting in a smooth, natural bass response.
